Chicago Tabletop Gaming Association
Code of Conduct

The Chicago Tabletop Gaming Association (“CTGA”) is committed to providing a welcoming, inclusive, respectful, and safe tabletop gaming community. This Code of Conduct (the “Code”) applies to all CTGA members and participants. “Member” means individuals with a paid or active CTGA membership. “Participant” means anyone who attends, volunteers at, organizes, visits, or otherwise participates in CTGA events, activities, or spaces, whether or not they are a CTGA Member. By joining or renewing membership, attending CTGA events, volunteering, organizing, visiting, or participating in CTGA spaces, each Member and Participant agrees to follow this Code. CTGA may update, revise, or replace this Code at any time, with or without notice. Members and Participants are responsible for complying with the current version of the Code.

This Code applies to all CTGA-related activities, including in-person events, online events, Discord or other online community spaces, meetings, conventions, public venues, private homes, schools, libraries, stores, and any other location or platform where CTGA activities occur.

1. Respectful Conduct

Members and Participants must treat all people with courtesy, dignity, and respect. CTGA welcomes people of different backgrounds, identities, ages, abilities, experience levels, and play styles. Members and Participants may not engage in harassment, bullying, “gatekeeping,” intimidation, threats, insults, personal attacks, discriminatory conduct, or behavior that unreasonably interferes with another person’s ability to participate in CTGA activities.

2. Mixed-Age Community

CTGA events and spaces may include both adults and minors. Members and Participants are expected to conduct themselves appropriately in mixed-age settings and to use good judgment regarding language, humor, game content, conversation topics, and behavior. Sexual harassment, nonconsensual sexually explicit conduct directed at others, grooming behavior, exploitation, or inappropriate interactions with minors is strictly prohibited.

3. Violence, Threats, and Unsafe Conduct Prohibited

Violence, threats of violence, physical intimidation, stalking, unwanted physical contact, reckless behavior, or conduct that creates a reasonable fear for personal safety is prohibited. Members and Participants must not damage property, interfere with venue operations, or create unsafe conditions for other attendees, organizers, volunteers, venue staff, or guests.

4. Harassment and Discrimination Prohibited

CTGA does not tolerate harassment or discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, disability, national origin, veteran status, marital status, family status, or any other protected status or personal characteristic. Harassment may include, but is not limited to, verbal, physical, written, visual, or online conduct, including slurs, epithets, unwanted sexual attention, repeated unwelcome contact, doxxing, abusive messages, or the display or promotion of hateful or discriminatory symbols or materials.

5. Alcohol, Substances, and Venue Rules

Members and Participants must comply with all applicable laws and all venue rules. Alcohol is permitted at CTGA activities only where allowed by the venue and applicable law. Members and Participants who consume alcohol remain solely responsible for their conduct. Illegal drugs, unsafe intoxication, or dangerous substance-related behavior is prohibited.

6. Online Conduct

This Code applies to CTGA online spaces, including Discord, social media groups, virtual tabletop games, chats, forums, and other digital platforms used for CTGA activities. Members and Participants may not use CTGA online spaces to harass, threaten, bully, dox, spam, impersonate others, share unlawful or abusive content, or engage in conduct that would violate this Code if done in person.

7. Photo, Media, and Video Consent

Members and Participants consent to being photographed, filmed, livestreamed, recorded, or otherwise captured in connection with CTGA activities. Members and Participants authorize CTGA to use their name, image, likeness, voice, and appearance in CTGA-related social media, newsletters, websites, promotional materials, archival materials, and other communications. Members and Participants with concerns about being photographed or recorded may notify CTGA or an event organizer. CTGA will make reasonable efforts to accommodate such requests when practical but cannot guarantee that a member or participant will not appear in photos, videos, livestreams, screenshots, or recordings.

8. Reporting Concerns

Members and Participants are encouraged to report Code of Conduct concerns to CTGA by emailing contact@chicagotga.org. Reports should include as much relevant information as reasonably possible, such as the date, location or platform, people involved, witnesses, screenshots if applicable, and a description of what occurred. CTGA may review reports, speak with involved parties or witnesses, consult organizers or venue staff, and take action it determines appropriate.

9. CTGA’s Enforcement Rights

CTGA may interpret, apply, and enforce this Code of Conduct in its sole discretion. CTGA reserves the unilateral right to take any action it determines appropriate to protect the safety, integrity, reputation, and welcoming nature of the organization and its events. Possible actions may include, but are not limited to, a warning, removal from an event or online space, restrictions on participation, suspension of membership, termination of membership, denial of future membership or event registration, removal from volunteer or leadership roles, or contact with law enforcement where appropriate. CTGA is not required to follow a formal appeal process to take or refrain from taking action under this Code. If CTGA suspends, terminates, restricts, or revokes a Member’s membership or Participant’s participation rights for violation of this Code, the Member or Participant will not be entitled to a refund of membership dues, event fees, donations, or other amounts paid to CTGA.
